As central Virginia’s premier trombone ensemble, Mr. Jefferson’s Bones has entertained thousands since its inception in 2001. The ensemble is comprised of some of Charlottesville and the Shenandoah Valley's most experienced and talented trombonists and enjoys performing classical, sacred, popular and jazz repertoire.

On July 24, 2007 the Charlottesville Municipal Band featured Mr. Jefferson's Bones as its special guest artist on their summer concert series. Commented one attendee on our performance, "I haven't heard trombone playing like that since Lawrence Welk!"
Cimarron Music Press has published three of Robert Mott's original compositions/arrangements for trombone ensemble. Click here to read more or to listen to a demo of "Theo's Tune", recently recorded by MJB's Robert Graham and Robert Mott at Pine Road Recording Studios in Scottsville.
PeteMeechan.com, a noted UK-based composer/arranger of brass music. We recently acquired his arrangement of "Break it Down" (variations on "A Mighty Fortress is Our God"), a favorite number of the U.K. trombone ensemble, Bones Apart.
HarryWatters.com -- a good friend of MJB (especially Gary Elwell) and a fantastic player! You might have heard him on Garrison Keillor's "A Prairie Home Companion" performing "Flight of the Bumblebee" with the U.S Army Brass Quintet.
Ryan Haines' DeadAxeMusic.com -- Ryan is a phenomenal jazz trombonist with the U.S Air Force Band in Washington D.C. and a fantastic composer/arranger. His third Ryan Haines Big Band CD, People and Places, has just been released.
Bonerama. This New Orleans-based rock funk band is headed by some amazing bone players!

The Photography of John Mason -- John is a great friend of MJB (our official photographer!) and a fine french horn player, too. John's galleries include: DEMOCRACY OF SPEED, an online Photo Documentary Project, and a permanent exhibition of Jazz at UVa on display at the Take It Away Sandwich Shop on "The Corner" across from the University of Virginia campus in Charlottesville.

Notable performances have included headlining the 2002 worship musical "God's Trombones: Jazz and the Gospel" with guest trombonist and recording artist Harry Watters, school assembly concerts for K-12 students, holiday and ground-breaking concert appearances for the Paramount Theater and the Omni Hotel, church service and nursing home engagements, and impromptu holiday collection kettle concerts for the Salvation Army.

In the summer of 2006, Mr. Jefferson's Bones was featured at Staunton's Jazz in the Park summer concert series. Adding two new members and a jazz rhythm section to its founding quartet, the bones provided an exciting and eclectic evening of great jazz standards and newer compositions. Featured were songs made popular by J.J. Johnson, Kai Winding, The Capitol Bones, Them Bones, Tutti’s Trombones, and The Stan Kenton Orchestra.
